LightWorks Candles

The following instructions will
ensure the best burn possible
from your palm wax
candle.

Upon first burn, burn candle for 1 hour and then extinguish.  This process creates a “memory burn” for all subsequent burns.  This procedure is necessary so that the melt pool burns regularly down the middle of the candle.  Relight once the wax has completely cooled.  Note, the flame may become small during this first burn.   (If the flame appears particularly small during subsequent burns, simply extinguish and allow candle to cool, then trim and relight).  Always allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.

Following the first burn, you may burn your candle for any length of time.  However, check your candle regularly to ensure correct burning.  Be mindful of drafts as they will cause the candle to burn unevenly.  Allowing the candle to burn in a draft area, or failing to straighten and trim the wick may cause the melt pool to overheat on any given side of the candle and burn through, causing “blowout.”  If blowout occurs, wax will leak from the burn hole down the side of the candle.  If this should happen, extinguish the candle and relight again once cool and wick trimmed.  Always place your candle in a deep dish so that if blowout should occur, the melted wax will be contained.

Your candle will inevitably burn unevenly further into the burn process.  The flame will begin to flicker as it burns down into the candle while a tall shell of solid wax remains around it. This is a result of reduced oxygen and air flow. However, by keeping the candle away from drafts and the wick straight and trimmed, the rims should remain intact.

Always keep wick trimmed to 1/8-¼”; trim the wick when the candle is cool and unlit, and remove any trimmings from the melt pool.  (Each candle is sold with the wick trimmed to the correct size for initial lighting.) Ensure that the wick is straight before lighting (straightening the wick should be done just following extinguishing).

Spilt wax can be removed by scraping off or picking, after allowing the spilt wax to harden.

Make sure to allow space between candles if burning multiple candles.  Warming one another from the outside as well as in may result in changing crystal structure and blowouts.

Always place your candle on a fireproof dish.  Do not place your candle on pillar holders or candle plates with spikes; the spike can easily fracture the pillar. Additionally, should blowout occur, most traditional candle holders lack the capacity to contain leaked wax.
